If you've found this page, then you must've seen them, right? The Things under the surface of the water? Things much too intelligent to be seals or dolphins? Things capable of advanced thought, reasoning, and problem-solving? Things that, even in the murky waters...seem almost human?
You're not alone!
What you have witnessed might have been a Mer!
Merfolk are deeply intelligent aquatic creatures that populate our oceans, rivers, lakes, and swamps. While appearance may vary, it is widely agreed upon that the distinguishing features of a Mer are their cognitive skill(s), capacity of communication, ability to use tools in some manner, and a very strong social structure.
Mers are very elusive, shy creatures, who try to avoid humanity as a whole. This can make study difficult. Fortunately, we have several groups of Mers who have semi-positive to positive relations with local human communities and/or humans. These groups, along with audio and visual recordings, offer a glimpse into the lives of these amazing beings.
We are learning more and more about Merfolk everyday! As such, some of the information presented may not be entirely accurate as of time of reading.
NEVER seek out a Mer on your own. While we have determined Merfolk are NOT inherently violent, they are still dangerous creatures, capable of serious harm if they feel threatened.
