Neon Hero

In a City of Neon Lights...

...the Local Hero Glows Just as Bright

The Basics

Neon Hero is a story set in the fictional city of Las Luces, a city on the coast that lights up the night. Inspired by 80's aesthetics and synthwave, the nightlife is truly something special. But there's evil lurking in the shadows where the neon glow doesn't touch, and there's danger around every corner...

But this city has a guardian, Dragonfly! A Superhero who glows almost as much as the city skyline, a master of hand-to-hand combat and a whiz with tech, Dragonfly is a kind soul who loves nothing more than to soar over her city. She's a bit new, and has big shoes to fill, but she's not about to give up! Joining her is Clay, her partner and best friend whom she rescued from a laboratory. He doesn't have a lot of experience with the Big Wide World, but with Dragonfly by his side, he'll get there...eventually.

In the city of Las Luces, Dragonfly and Clay are the only defense from the villains lurking in the dark. But not everything is so black and white, and could there be a potential friend amongst all their foes?

The Characters

Dragonfly

Real Name: Olivia Goode

Bust of Dragonfly

Olivia Goode is a young woman in her early twenties who works as a freelance programmer and attends yoga classes two times a week. She describes herself as quiet, meek, mild-mannered, and tired. Her passion is Entomology, coding, and broadway musicals. But when night falls, she dons her gear and becomes Dragonfly, the Neon Hero. Dragonfly is kind, intelligent, and brave, which is to be expected from a Superhero. She has no superpowers, so she must rely on her tech and her wits to win fights. Olivia has big shoes to fill; namely that of her Father, who also wore the mantle of Dragonfly. When he passed from smoke inhalation after saving civillians from a fire, that was when Olivia learned the truth about her often-absent father. After training for years, Olivia was ready to take to the skies as the new Dragonfly. But deep down, she can't help but feel...inferior.

Clay

Real Name: ???

Bust of Clay

Clay, originally designated as C-18, is a bioweapon that escaped from an underground laboratory after Dragonfly inadvertedly broke the seal on his container. Touched by this action, Clay sought her out and begged to be taught how to be "good". Thus began the strange friendship between the two. All of his emotions are rather subdued, rarely does he show how he feels. He is quiet, talks slowly, and speaks rather formally with very limited contractions. Clay, having spent nearly two decades stuck in a sterile lab, has very little experience with the outside world. He isn't exactly dumb, just rather ignorant on what things are and how they work. Currently, he enjoys watching cartoons, 'rescuing' toys from the trash, and assisting Olivia with her day-to-day chores. He currently struggles with anger and loose grip on morality; if it were up to Clay, he would simply kill "bad people". He sees the world completely in black and white, with people being incapable of change. Olivia hopes to fix this, someday. Hopefully soon.

Hayday

Real Name: Cornelius "Lee" Hayes

Bust of Hayday

Cornelius Hayes, preferring to go by Lee, is a troubled young man. Skittish, quiet, but extremely stubborn. Having moved from a small farm town in Texas with his ailing mother, he's not a fan of the big city in the slightest. With a criminal record from his teens haunting him, Lee works a dead-end job as a cashier to make ends meet. But with rent, bills, and the high cost of his mother's expensive treatments looming over his head, Lee took drastic action. At night, he dons an old scarecrow costume, takes his old farming scythe, and stalks the city as Hayday, a thief and criminal for hire. One would be forgiven to think the two are different people, as Hayday is a complete polar opposite from Lee; boisterous, sarcastic, prideful, almost playful. Being a thief and criminal puts him directly at odds with Dragonfly and Clay, but he's not opposed to assist them...as long as the price is right. Dragonfly swears there's good in him, whereas Clay is confident that he's a criminal, and always will be.
