NEON HERO

Every Good Story Needs a Side Cast

Darius Goode was often described as a do-er. Rarely was he one to sit down, to be silent, to do nothing in the face of difficulties or adversity. He knew that Las Luces was a cesspool of crime, and he knew that if he wanted to even attempt to clean up the streets, he couldn't do it as Darius. With his incredible talent for coding, engineering, and using experimental technology, Darius created a pack that could create four large wings using artificial nanoparticles. This wing pack allowed him to fly above the city skyline as Dragonfly.
Selling some non-important patents for designs allowed Darius and his daughter Olivia to keep a roof above their head and food on the table, allowing Darius to be a father by day and hero by night. For nearly two decades, Darius dedicated himself to keeping his city - and precious daughter - safe.
Until he died.
It was a house fire, Darius did his best to rescue everyone inside, inhaling a fatal amount of smoke.
But Darius wasn't about to let this stop him. His physical body may be gone, but Darius knew that one day, his occupation would kill him. And as such, he created a failsafe; an AI duplicate of him, stored within his main computer for future use. Upon activation, this Darius AI encouraged Olivia to take on the mantle. And, now that she has, he offers fatherly advice whenever he can.

Margaret Mae Hayes, preferring to go by "Maggie", is a very simple woman. She enjoys quiet, relaxed days, a comfortable chair, and a good book to get lost in. Rarely does she get this. Despite this, Maggie is very good at rolling up her sleeves and getting things done, an important quality to have on a small farm in the middle of nowhere.
Maggie loves her son very much, her little Corncob. Cornelius was always very energetic and eager to help her on the farm, and while money was always a little tight, she did her best to do right by him.
Her little world was shattered when she received a call from the police, saying that her little boy - then a teenager - had been arrested for robbery, and had been brutally attacked by his 'friends'. Corny had fallen in with a bad crowd, and she was none the wiser. She was furious with Cornelius, but she was deeply upset with herself.
The years that her son was in jail were the lonliest years of her life. And just when his sentence was up, Maggie receives the second phone call that would shatter her life; she had recieved a diagnosis for leukemia.
With this diagnosis, and with her Corncob out of jail, the two decided for a fresh start. Selling the farm, the two moved to Las Luces, where they hoped to find good care and treatment for Maggie's leukemia.
She's not one to complain about her new life. Her days consist of treatment and recovery from said treatment, with the occasional outting to the local library or coffee shop as to not go stir crazy. But her greatest wish is for her little Corncob; she misses his smile and the sparkle in his eyes. All she sees is exhaustion.

Detective Victor Stone used to be the best officer on the force. So good, in fact, that he quickly noticed just how corrupt the police department was; taking bribes, looking the other way during crimes, even committing crimes themselves. Victor hated how his fellow colleagues were so nonchalant about this, and worked hard to rise above the ranks.
Now a detective, Victor is exceedingly disconnected with the police department. He will often work on cases alone, and rarely does he work with others in the force. Being truthful, Victor has lost a lot of passion for his job and role within the community, but feels as though he can't leave.
Regarding the glowing hero that often soars above, his feelings are…mixed. Victor respects what she's doing, but he cannot, in good conscience, allow this unchecked vigilante to run around. His dream would be for Dragonfly to join the force and to help clean up all the rot within, but he knows that simply isn't possible. Being a vigilante is a crime, and as long as he still carries a badge, he has to enforce the law.

Reporter Louise Holly + Cameraman Raymond Holly

Louise Holly is a reporter for a relatively small and local news station within the city. Her skill for researching topics and reporting on said topics is unmatched by anyone in her field, and she approaches her job with a rabid fervor that is unparalleled. She is also, quite possibly, the most vocal hater of Dragonfly. A majority of her stories revolve around painting the Neon Hero within the worst light possible, and while others - such as Clay, Hayday, or other villains - are not exempt from this, Dragonfly is her prime target. The only reason the station deals with this is due to the quality of her other stories. Not far away is her husband, Raymond Holly. He is the complete opposite of his spitfire of a wife; calm, soft spoken, and is often her rock, her grounding presence, and her camera man. Raymond is used to the way his wife is, and is often the one to tell her to slow down and to settle down. He is a master with the camera, although he rarely is seen by one.
As a very small child, Louise's younger brother went missing. To this day, his disappearance has never been solved. Olivia's father, the previous Dragonfly, tried his very best to solve this case, to no avail. Louise set the blame entirely and fully onto Dragonfly, both old and current, and sees all superheroes as doing more harm than good.
do you remember the night he went missing?

The Girls

These three women are Olivia's small friend group outside of her Superhero Lifestyle. Olivia met them while attending some group exercise sessions at her gym, and they regulaly go out for coffee and snacks after their sessions, roughly three times a week. She enjoys their company immensely, as they make her feel 'normal'.

Fabi Jones

Happy-go-lucky, bubbly, and a bit emotional at times, Fabi can make almost anyone smile. She's the one who orders ungodly sugary concoctions as a 'coffee' and will always advocate for treats and gifts for any occasson. She's a self-admitted hopeless romantic and will fall for anyone with a charming smile and a cute butt. But she's able to reign in her feelings for her friends, whom she cares very deeply about. When one of her galpals is feeling down, Fabi pulls out all the stops to cheer her up. She owns seveal guinea pigs and will happily show photos when asked.

Michelle Park

Michelle likes to describe herself as 'deeply passionate'. To others, this can be a little intimidating. It's not intentional, she can just get swept up in the moment and the idea. To those that know her, she wouldn't hurt a fly. Sometimes she's just very focused on something, and might need some help to pull back a little. She cares deeply for others, and will definitely use this 'deeply passionate' personality of hers to stand up for others, especially her friends. Michelle wants to run her own business one day, but is struggling to settle on just one idea/concept.

Taylor Barnes

Taylor is cool as a cucumber and extremely mellow. She takes her time on most things; decisions, opinions, her crafts, and her hobbies. She's definitely a 'go with the flow' type person, and will usually just go along with what her frends are doing, but she's fine with that, as she enjoys their company over the experience. She really enjoys knitting and crochet, and she will frequently gift these to her friends. She's got two cats, and is the only one in the group that has a steady boyfriend.

Supermarket Employees

Lee's current job is at a supermarket. He hates this job, but it's the only one he's got. (Unless you consider him moonlighting as a scarecrow-for-hire as a job). Here are his coworkers that he's forced to tolerate.

Xavier Gonzales

Xavier is an easy-going, amicable guy. A definitive morning person who clocks in with a smile and clocks out with the same smile. He loves playing Tabletop RPGs, and he's always looking for new players. He loves customer service and loves chatting to people. He is, admittedly, a little spooked by all the villains of the city, but he has full confidence in Dragonfly (and thinks that she's pretty hot).

Hannah Gray

If you were to look up 'wallflower' in the dictionary, you would find a picture of Hannah. Painfully shy and exceedingly quiet, Hannah blends into the supermarket like a phantom. She's not great with the whole 'customer' part of the job, so she's usually found in the back to help with stock, or helping with paperwork in the office. If you manage to have a conversation with her, she's nice enough (and seems to take a liking to her tall, blonde coworker…not that she's actually spoken to him).in the dictionary, you would find Hannah.

Tangerine Atwood

A spoiled rich kid, Tangerine (it's unsure if this is her actual name) is a metaphorical fish out of water. Her father forced her to take this job in an attempt to teach her humility and a better understanding of money and it's value, but whether or not his punishment is working is up to debate. She is polite and nice enough, but is clearly not used to interacting with people out of her tax bracket. She sees this job as just a version of playing pretend for the most part, rubbing shoulders with people who don't have staff to do everything for them.

[OOC: this character is an expy of my partner's OC!]

Joy Bennett

Joy has reached an old enough age where she really doesn't take things seriously. She took this job mostly as something to do during the day. To get out of work she doesn't want to do (which is most things) she will play up the 'old lady' routine until somene else does it for her. She's surprisingly mischevous and playful, even if she's pretending that her hip is acting up.

Mr. Murphy

Rarely seen but ever feared, Mr. Murphy owns the supermarket and runs it with an iron fist. He will threaten workers with immediate firing at the slightest mistake, cowing them into obedience. Luckily for his staff, he is often physically away from the supermarket, knowing that his terrified employees will run a tight ship without him…if they want to keep their jobs, anyway.

It's a terrible thing to Wander
