Generation 5
Generation 5 is the apple of my eye. The first Pokémon game I ever owned, there will forever be a Generation 5 sized hole in my heart. Consisting of only four games, they are Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, and Pokémon White 2. Introducing the most Pokémon of any game to date (156!), these games were incredibly decisive at time of release. Black and White made the bold move of only allowing players to use the new Generation 5 Pokémon, at least prior to becoming the champion. This was not received well, and this was "fixed" by the sequels, which did not sell great. Generation 5 also saw the end of the trios of games, choosing instead to focus on sequels. Despite all of this, Generation 5 are my favorite games to date, and their reception seems to have softened years later.

Generation 5 was also the start to an amazing trend that continues to this day; starting in Black 2 and White 2, completing the entire Pokedex would net the player the Shiny Charm. Completing this astronomical task and getting this charm would boost your shiny odds from 1/8192 to approximately 3/8192 (roughly 1/2731). From this point onward, every mainline game will have a Shiny Charm.
